What Do Homeowners Say About Their Home Energy Improvements?
Hear directly from homeowners at free panel discussion and workshop March 15

Maybe you’ve heard about the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), the low-interest PowerSaver loans from UVA Community Credit Union or home energy efficiency in general. You’re curious what’s involved, what it costs and whether your house is a good candidate for things like insulation, duct sealing and HVAC upgrades.

March 15 is your chance to hear from the REAL experts: Homeowners who have already blazed this trail.

Get an inside look at home energy improvements from the homeowner’s point of view. More than 300 of your Central Virginia neighbors are saving money on their energy bills and enjoying more comfortable homes with LEAP’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. Hear directly from some of them about the challenges their homes and families faced, what they learned in their assessment, what upgrades they did, how much it cost and the benefits.

Charlottesville, Virginia – Local real estate professionals are invited to a groundbreaking lunch Thursday hosted by the Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS ® (CAAR), the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) and UVA Community Credit Union to hear a panel of speakers make sense of the tremendous amount of information at the local, state and national level regarding home energy efficiency and the residential real estate market.

Topics addressed will include how to:

·      Help homeowners who are interested in energy efficiency

·      Deal with energy efficiency features and our MLS

·      Help appraiser assign value to these features

Realtors who attend will also find out how they can learn more about their own home and potentially win a comprehensive home energy assessment to have more hands-on knowledge to share with clients.

“The topic of home energy efficiency has seen rapid advancements here in the Charlottesville area and nationally in recent years,” said Greg Slater, a Realtor with Nest Realty and Co-Chair of CAAR’s Home Performance Project Team. “The lunch continues an ongoing conversation about where things stand and where we’re going, and we need to hear the voices of realtors.”

“Over the last year LEAP has helped more than 300 local homeowners save money on energy bills, live more comfortably and make investments that improve their homes’ market value,” said Cynthia Adams, Executive Director of LEAP. “This discussion is a starting point for us to better collaborate with and empower the real estate community to share these benefits with thousands more current and future homeowners.”

One of Piedmont’s key trade partners was recognized for its 75 years of success in the HVAC business. I agree with Shane Lanhardt’s point that builder’s should be using better equipment in their standard offering. In my opinion, Piedmont’s commitment to superior HVAC equipment is exceptional and very relevant.

Here’s a link to the article: http://www.achrnews.com/articles/117968-contractor-does-it-right-for-75-years

Here’s an excerpt on Piedmont Realty and Construction:

Meanwhile, down in Virginia, Shane is also focused on providing energy-efficient options for homeowners. He has established a relationship with Piedmont Realty & Construction of Charlottesville, Va., a start-up builder that is differentiating its homes from others in the market by their energy-efficient design. Through McCrea’s contract with Piedmont, the builder is now offering Trane hybrid or dual-fuel setups as standard in its new homes, as well as offering upgrades to 20 SEER units.

David Wilson, an account manager at the Virginia service company, is excited about the Piedmont deal because he knows from experience how hard it is to get tract builders to pay attention to energy-efficient HVAC equipment. Wilson has been in the industry for 32 years, and has spent the last 16 at McCrea. “For years while I was selling new construction HVAC, I tried to no avail to get the builder to offer the customer something more than the bottom-dollar brand and base efficiency for their heating and air conditioning system,” he said. “I give all the credit to Shane in convincing Piedmont to upgrade and do this.”

Wilson added, “The direction this company is going is only in the right direction.”
